Planner - Addon Overview

The Planner is AYON's resource and booking system.

Last updated About 4 hours ago

The Planner is a premium addon included with the Studio subscription, or as an extra with a Pro subscription.

Plan and Resources show who and what your studio has, when each resource is booked, and how much capacity is left.

Schedule connects those bookings to the production tasks that do the work.

It answers questions like: Which compositors in London are free next week? Is the grading suite double-booked on Friday? Is the lighting team over capacity this month?

Key concepts

The Planner is built from four pieces that work together or on their own.

Concept

What it is

Example

Resource

Anything your studio tracks: people, rooms, machines, licences

An animator, a Flame suite, a Nuke licence

Booking

A block of time that allocates one or more resources

Artist + workstation + licence for two weeks on a project

Project

The project a booking is assigned to.

A commercial with client, brand and producer set

Scheduler

The project-level Schedule tab: a task timeline linked to your production hierarchy

Modeling task on char/dog from 3 to 14 March

Resources and projects feed bookings; bookings guide the task-level schedule.

AYON Planner Addon interface showing the Scheduler dashboard with a detailed task-based timeline. The left pane contains a table listing production tasks such as modeling, rigging, shading, and concept across various library folders (/lib/char/dog, /lib/char/chicken, /lib/char/cat). The table includes columns for Task Status, Task Type, and Assignees. The right pane displays a Gantt-style timeline for Q1 2026 (February to April), with color-coded task schedules linked to specific artists. A vertical blue playhead indicates the current date in February.
The AYON Scheduler provides granular task management, linking production hierarchies directly to hard dates and assigned personnel on a live timeline.

Quick start: your first booking

  1. Add resources. In the Resources tab, select Create new resource. Add a few people and one room, and set attributes such as Department and Location.

  2. Set capacity. Turn on the Capacity view and create a capacity event for each person, for example 8 hours per day, repeating every weekday.

  3. Create a planning project. On the Projects page, select Create new project and fill in its attributes, such as client and brand.

  4. Group the timeline. In the Plan tab, group by Department or filter by Location: London.

  5. Create a booking. Hold Ctrl/Cmd and drag on the timeline, or press S. The resource picker opens already filtered to your current grouping. Assign the booking to your project.

  6. Check the workload. The workload graph shows whether the booking fits within each resource's capacity.

  7. Schedule the tasks. Open the project's Schedule tab, turn on Show Planner, then right-click the booking and select Create Schedule to date the matching tasks.
